For millions of parents overwhelmed by the challenges of parenting, Supernanny Jo Frost has been there with common sense approaches focusing on consistency, positive family dynamics, and the importance of play. Although she discontinued her popular American TV series, Supernanny, Jo continues to reach out to parents through her website www.jofrost.com, three parenting books, and UK television series, Extreme Parental Guidance.
Recently, DC Metro Mom had the opportunity to interview Jo about an issue near and dear to her heart. In the attached interview, Jo discusses the challenges she has faced since being diagnosed with asthma and exercise induced bronchospasm (EID), the warning sings for identifying breathing problems in your children, and her experiences with managing and treating these conditions. For all of us, the oppressive heat of a DC summer makes it difficult to spend time outdoors. We thank Jo for offering her strategies for managing asthma & EID, beating the heat, and staying active and healthy.

With Spring 2011 finally upon us many moms have realized it is time to dust off the workout gear and start to shed some of those winter pounds. Some first time moms are no doubt wondering how exercise fits into a hectic life with an infant. For those who love to run or simply walk, I have the perfect answer for you. Meet seeMOMMYRun!
The founder of seeMOMMYrun, Andrea Vincent, talks about her inspiring organization that she started from her home in Fairfax, VA. Forget the humble beginnings of 2004, seeMOMMYrun now has more than 50,000 national members. For out more in my interview with Andrea.

DC Metro Mommy: You have an amazing site, www.seeMOMMYrun.com, which gives mothers a networking tool to help find running and walking groups. As someone who was desperate to get out of the house after I had my daughter, I think seeMOMMYrun.com is pure brilliance. What inspired you to start the site?
Andrea: Desperation- same as you! I had recently moved across the country, gotten married, and decided to start a family. It was a lot to handle without family and friends in VA. So while pregnant, I started pre-planning how I would make friends with babies who liked to run! My marketing/advertising brain took over and I created the site. Voila!

This week is Linda, one of my favorite bloggers. I started following her personal blog (Sundrymourning) shortly after the birth of her first son, where she was talking my language as a first-time mom. She now has two little boys and I got the chance to meet her in person at BlogHer this past July. (Yes, I stalked her in yoga).
Linda is a very busy mom who works part-time for a software company and also contributes to the following websites:
Balanced Living: health and fitness topics
...
Work It, Mom!: tips and topics for moms
Sundry Buzz :product reviews and giveaways
Lemondrop: everyday musings

This week's fit mommy is Rachel, who blogs over at Fitness For Mommies. She has two young boys, works as a PE teacher, and still has time to bike, do yoga, lift weights, and train for a marathon! That definitely makes her "One Fit Mommy"!

This week I am excited to introduce Linda, a 40-something married mom of two teens living in suburban Chicago. Linda is a part-time Legal Assistant by day and personal trainer at most other times.
I follow Linda on Twitter and I'm always impressed by her energy and dedication to fitness. She is busy juggling two jobs/careers yet does not let that stop her from finding time to exercise. She makes fitness a priority, which is precisely why Linda is "One Fit Mommy"!

I have always been a big fan of The Biggest Loser because I love seeing the transformation of the contestants. They work hard and make great changes in their lives.
This season however, a couple things are bothering me:
-Is the humiliation really that necessary? Last week Jillian screamed in a contestants face (on day one) and reduced her to a puddle of tears. I'm not expecting hand holding, but yelling in someone's face, especially on their first day, just isn't motivating. Had this person not been on the show, they probably never exercise again.
This weeks dose of humiliation was the slip and slide challenge. Most of the contestants already have poor body image, do we need to show them sliding face-first down a water slide in their bathing suits? I felt embarrassed for them, I can only imagine how self conscious they must have felt during this challenge.

Summer has ended and in order to get myself excited about the season changing, I have written down a few things that remind me of Fall.
Marathons! A big shout out to those running the Marine Corps (Frannie!), St. George (Rachel, Nap Warden!), NYC (Fitarella), and Baltimore (Me! well, it should have been me if not for this darn foot problem). Your training is almost done gang, hang in there!
Football: I can't say I'm too excited about this one since my husband becomes part of the sofa on Thursday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays. Can someone explain to me why football is on so much?
Then again, I love to take the boys to go watch games and practice at the school near our house. We run and play on the sidelines and pretend to have our own game. (a great chance for some extra fitness in my day!)
Fleece: Nothing says COZY more than a comfy fleece sweatshirt and pants on a crisp fall day. If you are looking for some amazing and comfortable clothing, please check out the new clothing line from Jockey. (disclaimer: I am an independent consultant for Jockey, but I can assure you that I LOVE the clothing!)
Apple picking: This brings back so many fun memories from my own childhood and now it is so much fun to experience the adventure with my own kids. It also gets my family excited about eating apples, which is easy to do when you have buckets of apples laying around your house. (remember my ABC plan? I need to bring that back!)

The window repairman said he would be here in 45 minutes. This happened to fall in my ONLY window of opportunity to exercise today. Much needed exercise, for both my mind and my body.
I contemplated it all for a second: I'd have to change the baby, get my clothes from upstairs, fill my water bottle, get the baby's snacks and toys, etc.
Or I could just get up, grab the jogger and go. I could seize the moment for what it was:
the only moment I was going to get today.
