Based on the internationally acclaimed 2000 film, "Billy Elliot the Musical" will be brought to life at the Kennedy Center this week by a cast of 45 performers, a Tony Award winning creative team, and an incredible score by music legend Sir Elton John.  Against the background of the 1894/95 coal miners strike in North Eastern England, the show tells the story of Billy, the son of a miner who trades his boxing gloves for ballet shoes.  To avoid the disapproval of family and friends he follows his dreams in secret and ends up inspiring them instead. 

Since its debut  in London, the musical has garnered many awards, traveled the globe and captured the hearts of more than 6 million people worldwide.  Honored with an amazing ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical, "Billy Elliot the Musical" has been called "the most inspiring show I've seen in years" by the New York Times.  If you are looking for a great musical theater experience that the whole family will enjoy, this is it!
