Reader Review: "The Snowy Day" @ Glen Echo Adventure Theater

Snowy Day

 By Liz

“The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats at the Glen Echo Adventure Theater

The Adventure Theater at Glen Echo is currently running a musical performance of the now 50 year old story “The Snowy Day.”  Written during the height of the civil rights movement, the lead character happens to be Peter –  the first African American main character featured in a children’s book.  The story frames Peter’s first magical time experiencing snow:  making snowballs, snow angels and meeting a real snowman.  The actor playing Peter (Alan Wiggins) is a very talented actor, singer, and man, – can he dance!  The play is just 55 minutes – perfect for young kids.

And there is not a bad seat in the house.  My 6 year old thoroughly enjoyed the show -  I heard several belly laughs.  And her favorite part?  The end of the play, when the audience was showered with “snow.”

The musical is running through February 12th.
