PR Web

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts announces a robust offering of arts classes for all ages for winter 2012. With everything from individual piano lessons to family music and movement classes with infants and toddlers to a community drum circle, Wolf Trap has opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to connect with the arts.

Each season, Wolf Trap offers a diverse array of classes, delivered by professional Teaching Artists at the Center for Education at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. Classes being offered this winter include:

Baby Artsplay™ and Artsplay™: Music, movement, and drama classes foster self-expression, imagination, and creativity for children ages 6-months to 5 years. Over the course of eight weeks, Wolf Trap Teaching Artists guide parents and caregivers in performing arts experiences that enhance children’s intellectual, language, social, emotional, and physical development.

Baby Artsplay classes are on Mondays or Saturdays, January 9 – March 3

Artsplay classes are Saturdays, January 14 – March 3

Djembe Drumming & Drama: Children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade create musical tales through drama, movement, and song in this eight-week session. Participants will interpret fables and develop creative rhythms on their own djembe drums. Traditional African stories inspire a final performance where children showcase drumming techniques learned in class.  Saturdays, January 14 – March 3

African Drumming: Adults will learn the rhythmic patterns, phrases, and techniques of one of the most prominent West African drumming traditions in a comfortable group setting. Tuesdays, Feb 7– April 10

Community Drum Circle: Adults of all ages and skill level learn drumming techniques on a West African djembe drum during this special one-night event.  Together, the group organically evolves its own unique rhythm. Experiencing an African drum circle in a comfortable group setting is a unique opportunity for everyone from experienced drummers to percussion novices.  Tuesday, January 31, 7 p.m.

Group Guitar: Teens and adults will learn guitar fundamentals—keys, chords, strum patterns, and fingerpicking—as well as the history of the instrument, notation, and traditional musical styles in this 12-week class. Concepts will be applied to songs and appropriate chord progressions. Mondays, January 23 – April 9

Private Piano Lessons: Whether you’re an absolute beginner, seasoned player, or somewhere in-between, you’ll benefit from the focused attention of a professional instructor. Lessons are based on individual abilities, needs, and goals, and available for ages 5 years to adult. Mondays, Tuesdays & Saturdays, January 23 – April 21

Private Voice Lessons: Students ages 12 to adult will improve their singing technique and confidence with a professional instructor dedicated to personal achievement, individual abilities, needs, and goals. Tuesdays & Saturdays, January 24 – April 21
