After spending 15 years in corporate America, I was a self-assured, outgoing individual that was confident of my abilities and knowledge base. So one would think that with all this ego I would be a solid candidate for children. Right? Wrong! Motherhood was the most humbling experience I have ever gone through. Today I am taking the life lessons I have learned as a parent as well as my knowledge of the DC Metro area and I am sharing it with other DC Metro parents. This is the guide I wish I had when my daughter was first born. I hope DC Metro Mom helps answers your questions about local resources family friendly events. The site is also meant to share event information, design tips and share some of the laughs that come with parenthood.

Knights, Horses, and a Feast Fit For Kings at the Baltimore/Washington Medieval Times Castle
Our family has been visiting Medieval Times pretty regularly since 2006 when our oldest son developed an intense interest in all-things-knights. I am a thirty-four year old DC first-time mom-to-be. From my 10th floor apartment in Columbia Heights I'm sorting out everything I will need to know to birth and parent the little person inside me right now. I was raised in rural Alabama by my physician father and stay-at-home mom on a small hobby farm, the oldest of eight kids. I spent three years studying and apprenticing in midwifery before moving on to a career in community relations that led to non-profit fundraising. I currently work for a national cancer research organization in Dupont Circle. My husband is an only-child computer nerd from New Orleans who manages networks for a software company in Rockville. I'm also a writer, coming into my own through blogging and classes. And finally, I'm a professional photographer with seven years of experience shooting weddings, family, maternity and children's portraits, theater events and even pets. I believe in compassion, creativity, cooperation and connections. I think I'm going to be a great mom.

I spent the last ten years in New Orleans, obtaining my BA, MA, and JD, surviving hurricanes and floods, and in general having an awesome time. Emily Yosmanovich
My name is Emily Yosmanovich. I was once an actress in New York City. Then I changed career paths, and wound up teaching elementary school in Northern Virginia. I went to school for a long time to earn the titles of "actress" and "teacher." Now... I am a professional homemaker! I never went to any school to earn this title, so I'm learning as I go. I've learned how to change a diaper while wrestling a toddler to stay still. I've learned just what all of the buttons on my washing machine do. I've learned how to multitask in the kitchen, cooking adult dinner and feeding the baby all at once. Most of all, I've learned that there is no one way to be a good parent; everyone is doing the best they can. We all have our weak moments, as well as our stellar moments. I have so much more to learn, and I love to write about my experiences! Writing is my sanity check. I write sincerely from my heart, I attempt to be funny (though my hubby often rolls his eyes at these attempts), and I try to be helpful to other moms.
