Learn about the personal lives of enslaved and free people of color, the Civil War, laws governing slavery, the abolitionist movement, noteworthy institutions, and the civil rights work of such early 20th-century figures as W.E.B. Du Bois and A. Philip Randolph. Presented in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the passage of the District of Columbia’s Emancipation Act in 1862.
